RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
There are several surprisingly good Italian restaurants in Aruba but all things considered, this is our favorite.
Valentino's has won a number of honors for its fine food but it's not cheap. If you do it right---appetizer, salad, pasta course, main course, dessert and wine---you're gonna do some serious credit card damage. But armed with that knowledge and knowing that the food and service will be outstanding, I hope you'll give this place a try.
The restaurant is located toward the interior of the island but very near the major high rise hotels along Palm Beach. It's located in a condo complex known as the Caribbean Palm Village Resort and the restaurant is upstairs.
This may surprise you--it surprised me--but the meal we had at Valentino's was just about as good as anything we had during our last trip to Italy!
Start out with a freshly prepared appetizer. We had some bruschetta that was out of this world. The anti-pasta selection was also sensational. Then we moved on to a pasta course. Then came the big show. Choose from steak, fresh shrimp, lobster, or chicken. The house specialty is usually a good bet. But please save room for dessert. They do perhaps the best desserts on the island and possibly in the Caribbean.
If you have cocktails and wine with dinner, expect to pay close to $150/U.S. for your dinner for two. But again, this is the kind of a place that is truly worth a splurge.
They have a web site here although it has been up and down like a yoyo over the years. I'm glad they do their food much better than their web site! I would strongly advise making a reservation at Valentino's. Their number is (297) 586-2700.
