RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
A PERSONAL REVIEW OF RESTAURANTS AROUND THE WORLD

THAI ERAWAN RESTAURANT
ORMOND BEACH, FLORIDA

This was a sensational find!  If there's a better Thai restaurant in the Ormond Beach / Daytona Beach Area, I can't imagine it!  If you like Thai food, give this place a shot.

We visited Thai Erawan on a Saturday around the noon hour.  Ironically we were looking for a Mexican joint but my wife caught a glimpse of this place at the intersection of A1A and Florida Highway 40 and I'm glad she pointed it out.

It's an elegant place but not stuffy.  The menu offers all of the usual suspects you've come to love and enjoy in a Thai restaurant.

I selected Pad See Ew for my main course.  Large rice noodles with egg, broccoli and sweet soy sauce.  You can order it with chicken, pork or beef.  I chose chicken and it was very, very good.  I asked for it medium (medium heat) and it was just perfect for my taste.  For an extra buck-50 I got a spring roll and bowl of spicy chicken rice soup.  Both were great.

My wife, who usually gets Chicken Cashew Nut or something like that decided to try something new, a curry called Panang Chicken.  It came with coconut milk, Thai curry, ground peanuts, zucchini and bell pepper.  It was great and the curry fresh and delicious.  By the way, some think that curry always comes out of a tin.  No way!  It's a mixture of a number of spices and can be made a thousand different ways.  They did it up right here!  Her lunch came with a big mold of Jasmine rice.

This is probably the best Thai meal we've had in central or north Florida and based on our first--but not last visit--we can highly recommend it.  Lunch with trip and sodas came to $30.

Maybe We'll Learn How To Take Clear Pictures Sometime This Century!

As far as I can tell they don't have a web site, but you can find Thai Erawan at 291 E. Granada Blvd. (Florida 40) in Ormond Beach.  Their phone number is (386) 677-0999.  If you're coming south on A1A from Daytona Beach, turn left at Florida 40 and then make an immediate right into the strip mall.  If you're coming north on A1A from Ormond-By-The-Sea / Flagler Beach, turn right on Florida 40 and make an immediate right turn into the strip mall.  I hope you enjoy this place as much as we did!
