A PERSONAL REVIEW OF RESTAURANTS AROUND THE
WORLD
STEAK HOUSE BAR & GRILL
KONG KONG, KOWLOON, CHINA
Okay, you're an American in Hong Kong with
some of the most exotic dining possibilities on earth. Why, then, would
you want to dine at an American style steak house? And at a hotel no less?!
Well my wife and I checked out our hotel
thoroughly upon arrival in Hong Kong. We stayed at the Regent. It's
now known as the InterContinental Hong Kong. It's an excellent hotel,
often voted as one of the best business hotels in the world and it has an
absolutely mesmerizing view of Victoria Harbor. It sits right on
the harbor with nothing to obstruct the view. So, as we checked all the
restaurants out we came across this really cute little place complete with
bundles of hay and cowboy decor. The Steak House Bar & Grill. We had
been filling up on tons of Asian food on this trip and figured we'd give the
place a try.
The Asian servers looked a little bit out of
place with their western square dancing type attire to say the least! But
you know what? The food was pretty good.
They had a very good salad bar. The
propaganda in the room bragged that it was the best in all of Hong Kong. I
might dispute that but it was packed with many selections.
We grazed at the salad bar and then we each
had a seafood cocktail to start. Then it was onto the star of the show.
I had a nice t-bone steak. My wife went with a filet. Both came out
cooked just perfect--very rare--and they were cooked over a live charcoal fire.
Nice touch. Our meal came with baked potatoes and they were offered western
style with practically every heart-clogging option you could think of.
Dinner with wine probably came to about $80
U.S. Not too terribly bad for a world class meal at a fine hotel.
The same meal in Singapore would have probably dinged us at least $200.
The Steak House Bar & Grill is located on the
lower level of the InterContinental Hong Kong Hotel. If you're in H.K. and
get a craving for a decent piece of beef, this is a good option to consider.
