RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
We happened upon this place by accident. We had toured Albert Dock and strolled back to the Thistle Hotel walking along the waterfront of the Mersey River and past the ferry docks. We visually noticed the restaurant on the second floor of a building and I checked the menu out which had been posted downstairs at the ground level entry to the restaurant. It looked good.
After heading back to the hotel we phoned the restaurant and made reservations.
Immediately upon walking upstairs and entering this very pretty restaurant we noticed that a lot of Asians had selected it. That's always a good sign. And believe me, we weren't disappointed.
We ordered from one of several "set" menus which provided a lot of food but gave diners a price break.
We each started out with a steaming bowl of lemon chicken soup. Next came appetizers consisting of spring rolls, barbecued ribs, and some interesting fried seaweed. It wasn't bad!
For the main deal we each got two stir fry dishes. My wife selected chicken with veggies, which was placed on a very hot metal dish and sizzled away. I chose a beef stir fry dish.
Everything was wonderful. No complaints. Nice sunset outside. And the service was excellent.
Even though this restaurant isn't listed in any of the tourist magazines we read, we can highly recommend it based on our experience.
The Shanghai Palace is located at the ferry docks near the water on the Liverpool city side of the river. You can't miss it!
