RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
A PERSONAL REVIEW OF RESTAURANTS AROUND THE WORLD

PORTOFINO
RAROTONGA, COOK ISLANDS

We enjoyed this restaurant several times during our stay on this beautiful and friendly island.

As the name would suggest, Portofino specializes in Italian dishes but the menu is not limited to Italian.  They have weekly specials and there's always an "all you care to eat" pasta special on the menu.  Or at least there was when we were there!

You'll find all the "usual suspects" on the menu here from bare bones spaghetti to stuffed pasta dishes, Alfredo, lasagna, manicotti, etc.  Plus they throw in a little local seafood with some of the dishes making them interesting to say the least.

During our visits we tried several pasta dishes and all were just about perfect.  Each time our party consisted of six diners and everybody enjoyed each meal.  The garlic bread was a real hit with the table, too.

On one night our "offspring" chose to try the locally made pizzas and they were very good and filling.  Salads were good and during one visit my son tried a steak and proclaimed it very good.  They get their meat from New Zealand in this part of the world.

You can dine inside at Portofino or outside.  This is a popular place, very casual, and they do take reservations.  You should definitely put this restaurant on your "must dine" list while visiting Rarotonga!
