RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
When I asked locals about the best example of Southwestern cooking in Santa Fe one restaurant name always came up. The Pink Adobe. Or as the locals refer to it, simply "The Pink."
The restaurant is, indeed, housed in a beautiful pink adobe building. Inside you get a true Southwestern feel to the place.
Interestingly, I found the menu to be much more diverse than I had expected. In addition to traditional Southwestern fare, there were some pretty fancy schmancy items to choose from. And interestingly, one entire section of the menu featured Mexican dishes.
Having lived in New Orleans I was fascinated to see that they offered shrimp remoulade as an appetizer. I ordered it and it was wonderful. One of my associates ordered the onion soup and said it was very nice.
Above and beyond living in New Orleans, we also lived in Dallas and I simply couldn't get my eyes off the Mexican section and immediately ordered the "Plato Grande." It came with enchiladas, a tamale, a taco and lovely guacamole salad. It was good and a little more spicy than some Mexican has come to be around the country now.
Others in our party ordered everything from steak to a house special involving chicken baked with booze and served with spinach noodles.
This was a very nice experience and even though locals may consider this to be the quintessential Southwestern dining experience, there's something on the menu to please just about everyone.
The Pink Adobe is located 406 Old Santa Fe Trail. Reservations are wise and their phone number is (505) 983-7712. They have a well done web site here.
