RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
This was a surprising and excellent find in a shopping center called Punta Carretas and it's connected directly by a special entrance from the Sheraton Montevideo Hotel.
For a mall restaurant the place was very good sized and like many parrillas in South America, this place had a roaring fire over which the meat was cooked.
This eatery seemed to specialize not only on beef and meat but in beef bi-products. At the top of the menu was their specialty -- grilled rack of lamb.
My wife and I got decided to go ahead and order the special and it turned out to be some of the best lamb we've ever had.
We had an option of fries or a large salad for two and we went with the salad. It was a big bowl full of tomatoes, hearts of palm, hard boiled eggs, onions, tons of beets and lettuce. The salad was served with separate bottles of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was quite tasty.
Then came our lamb. Two nicely done pieces of rack of lamb served on a dish that had some sort of heat source under it (candles, charcoal, we weren't certain).
The lamb bones were tiny. About half the size of a pencil and I felt kind of bad about eating such a small lamb...until I tasted the poor chap. Outstanding and cooked medium rare!
This was a surprisingly good find and I would highly suggest it to you if you're staying at the Sheraton. Heck, I'd suggest it to anybody!
PS-It looks like they're trying to build a website at the time of this review. But I don't speak Spanish so I'm not sure. Whatever they're working on it's here.
