RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
This is a great little place that specializes in Italian cooking. It's about an hour north of San Francisco--give or take a few minutes. It makes for a nice little daytrip. It's a family style place and the kids love it. If they throw food, nobody will notice!
I'm not sure how long the place has been there but it's one of those heritage places that has been around for a long time.
The food's not fancy here. You'll find the usual pastas like ravioli, spaghetti, fettuccine, tortellini, lasagna and something you won't find on too many menus - polenta.
Their Caesar salad is a great way to start the meal. Many order a pizza to share as an appetizer. Other first courses include the usual suspects like fried calamari, cheese sticks, bruschetta, garlic bread and minestrone soup.
If you'd like something other than pasta, they also turn out some pretty nice meat and fish dishes. Duck even makes an appearance. But when we go there, we load up on the yummy pasta!
While you're dining you can ask your server to match your dish up with a good but not too expensive home grown wine from California!
Negri's is a great place. It's stood the test of time. My kids loved it when they were little squirts and I'm looking forward to taking their kids there some day!
This is a pretty short review and I apologize for not taking pictures. I'll snap some the next time we make the trip to Occidental!
They have a nice little web site here complete with directions.
