RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
MARINA RAW BAR
We read about this restaurant and decided to give it a shot in our endless pursuit to actually find a piece of genuinely fresh fish in the Myrtle Beach area. But alas, it wasn't to be -- a g a i n!!!!!
First of all, we had a "green" waitress who could have screwed up a wet dream. She knew nothing about the menu, preparation methods, etc. We must have been her first victims, ah, customers!
We started out with a round of cold diet sodas and iced teas--which took way too long to arrive. I ordered a dozen steamed clams as a starter and they arrived cold, on ice. I reminded her that I had ordered the clams steamed and not raw and she seemed perplexed. Oy! A few minutes later and the tiny clams arrived nice and steamed.
I ordered a fried seafood platter for my main course and it was okay. Nothing to write home about and nothing appeared to be fresh. We had driven a long way in search of really fresh seafood and this didn't exactly hit the spot. Not bad. Not great. Certainly not worth the long drive to get there.
The restaurant boasted of a beautiful view and while we were seated on the patio, there were some glimpses of the inlet and waterway but nothing drop dead beautiful.
If you're in the area and want a quick meal and perhaps a beer, this might be a good choice. But for the real seafood lover in you, I'd look elsewhere.
The Marina Raw Bar is located at Vereen's Marina Highway 17 North in North Myrtle beach. Their phone number is (843) 249-3972.
