RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
I've been enjoying hickory smoked ribs at Kojak's since the late 80s. This is a very rustic kind of place. It's an old house and you can dine at one of the few tables inside or suck dem bones on the patio.
Servers here are extremely friendly. They're kind of like your aunts and uncles and the barbecue is top shelf all the way. None of this blackened in the oven stuff and then drowned in sauce.
If you're not in the mood for ribs you can always order the barbecued chicken or a combo of both. Many friends swear by the smoky sausage (kielbasa, I think).
Each order comes standard with typical barbecue fixins of coleslaw and baked beans although you have the option of some outstanding potato salad or macaroni salad.
The proper drink here to go with all that smoked meat is iced tea.
One important thing to remember when planning your feast at Kojak's. Bring cash. They do not take credit cards.
Kojak's is located at 2808 West Gandy Blvd. in Tampa. For directions you can ring 'em up at (813) 837-3774. As far as I know, they do not have a web site.
