RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
A PERSONAL REVIEW OF RESTAURANTS AROUND THE WORLD

KING SITRIC
HOWTH, IRELAND

This is a great little seafood restaurant just a short DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) ride from the big city.  Our visit to this place came during a chilly November night and our initial impression of the establishment was puzzling.

When we walked up to the door and pulled on the handle, it was locked.  How strange?  We had a reservation so we knew that they were expecting us.  We looked around, located a doorbell and gave it a push.  Within seconds a smiling waiter was there to let us in and show us to our table.

The place appears to be on the formal side yet diners weren't dressed to the nines.  The tables had rich tablecloths, the service was nothing short of outstanding and the food was equally fine.

I started out with an order of Dublin Bay prawns and they were out of this world.  My wife had a seafood bisque (crab, I think, although it could have been lobster) and said it was great.

Dublin Bay Prawn Prior To His Spa Treatment (Steam Bath!)

For the main course, we each had fish.  I had grilled plaice and my wife had turbot in some sort of sauce.  Again, both were fabulous.

In checking out their web site to post here, I notice that they now even offer rooms for overnight stays.

If you're in the mood for a little side trip from Dublin and a truly outstanding seafood dinner served by very efficient and courteous servers, I'd highly recommend this place.

Their web site is here.
