RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
A PERSONAL REVIEW OF RESTAURANTS AROUND THE WORLD

 KERVANSARAY & HUMMERBAR
VIENNA, AUSTRIA

This is one of the finest seafood restaurants in Austria and the place to go when in pursuit of lobster.  For us, however, fresh fish was the game plan.

This is a fairly fancy place and the wait staff seemed a bit on the stuffy side.

We all started out with shrimp or crab cocktails and we shared a bowl of fish soup.  All were great.

For our main course we tried a variety of fish.  I had some cod, my wife went with salmon and the others in our party had plaice or some other fresh fish.  The presentation on the fish was simple and quite tasty.

Vienna is famous for sweets so the women each ordered a fancy dessert while the guys simply sipped some coffee to end the meal.

Vienna is not a cheap city and fresh fish is a high ticket item.  So be prepared for a wallop when the bill comes.

While we certainly enjoyed our meal and can recommend it to you, this won't go down as the best fish meal we've ever had.   And be sure to get distinct directions from your concierge.  We missed it several times looking for it on foot.  They now have a web site here.
