RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
HONG KONG RESTAURANT
This was a rather odd but nonetheless tasty experience. We couldn't help but notice this little place right down the street from our hotel, which back then was called the Ramada Turquoise. I'm not sure what they call it now.
One day after touring the island (tours are always short here because this is a small place!) we decided to give Hong Kong Restaurant a shot for lunch.
As we entered the place we immediately noticed that nobody else was dining there. That's usually a bad sign. But after waiting a short amount of time, an Asian gentleman welcomed us to his place and took us from the main room to a smaller room. The main room was very hot in the mid-day sun and the second room was just as hot---until the guy flipped on an air conditioner. The coolness felt nice.
The food was pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary. My wife started out with some sweet and sour soup of some sort. I had some egg rolls. Our daughter and her friend shared an order of egg rolls.
For my main course I got stir fried shrimp in some sort of Asian sauce with veggies. Tasty but not sensational. The rest of the diners sampled and shared other stir fries involving chicken, beef and one vegetarian dish. We all left the restaurant satisfied and it was certainly a break from all the nice, fresh seafood.
I watched to see what would happen when we left. Sure enough, the guy who seated us and served us jumped up and switched the air conditioning back off. Can't blame him. Air conditioning bills must be murder on this pretty little island.
For directions, just ask anybody to point you to Grace Bay and you'll find the Hong Kong Restaurant!
