RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK THE GREY
MOSS INN I like restaurants that have "been there forever" and this one fits the bill perfectly! This place has been there since 1929! It's just a short and scenic drive from the Alamo City of San Antonio and is famed for it's grilled meats. They have a limited appetizer selection including a nice shrimp cocktail and some really tempting sautéed mushrooms. A handful of salads are offered but none is intended to be a meal unto itself. Most people I know who dine at the Grey Moss go for a nice, juicy, tender steak cooked rare. But for some reason when I go there, I usually go with the chicken. It's some of the best you'll ever savor grilled over a mesquite wood fire. They also offer succulent lamb chops and plenty of seafood offerings heavy on lobster. And relatively recently they even added a vegetarian entree! I usually don't go for dessert but it would be a crime not to have a slice of rich pecan pie here. It's sensational! This is a charming place that serves up top notch Texas grub with very friendly service. The Grey Moss Inn is located just a short hop from San Antonio on Scenic Loop Road in Helotes, Texas. Actually their exact address is a bit confusing. Most locals consider it a San Antonio restaurant yet it is located in Helotes. But not exactly. Their formal address is Grey Forest, Texas! Reservations are highly suggested. Their number is (310) 695-8301. Their web site is located here complete with directional help! |
