RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK GRAN CAFE
TORTONI We only stopped by to see this magnificent place and enjoy some coffee, sodas and a piece of cake but I did want to review it because it is a legendary tradition in B.A.
This place has been here for a few years. The doors opened in 1858. You can have breakfast here. Ditto for lunch and dinner. And the bar stays open quite late.
There's also a small theatre on the main floor where small bands play. Downstairs there's a much larger venue and a local radio station does a live show there most nights of the week from 12 midnight to 2am. You can just feel the history here and the place was packed during our visit. Esteban, our host, says it is nearly always jam packed.
As you exit the cafe you'll find a glass display case featuring pictures of former U.S. First Lady Hillary Ram Rod Clinton. They're very proud that she saw fit to visit their establishment.
For a truly unique Buenos Aires experience, you should make it a point to stop here for a snack or a meal. It really does typify the spirit of this great city. Check out their web site here. (It's a slow loader but worth checking out plus it has an English section for us Yanks.) ADDITIONAL BUENOS AIRES RESTAURANT REVIEWS: Bar 6 |
