RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
If you're a scallop aficionado then you simply must make it a point to make the pilgrimage to this town at least once in your lifetime. Digby is billed as the scallop capital of the world and having dined at this restaurant, I believe the claim.
I've never tasted such fresh morsels in my life although some we tried in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina--of all places--were a very close second. These big scallops came at a buffet so they had to have been delivered frozen. The scallops you get in Digby are fresh out of the sea.
My meal started with some succulent steamed mussels from Prince Edward Island. My wife began her feast with some smoked salmon and cream cheese on toast points. Everything was great. We actually shared a bowl of scallop chowder to see how it would taste and we were not disappointed.
I had to go with lightly fried scallops for my main course and they were sensational. Absolutely out of this world! My wife went with some sort of fancy seafood casserole in a creamy, rich sauce for the main event. She said it was terrific!
The children nibbled away on some kiddie meals (grilled cheese and fries) and seemed happy enough.
Ironically, the scallops here were even better than the ones we, ourselves, grabbed out of the Gulf of Mexico off our boat during scallop season in July. The Florida scallops were a form of bay scallops and not quite as succulent as the North Atlantic beauties.
This is a great place and other restaurants in town also looked good. Ah -- so many restaurants, so little time. But we can vouch for the quality of the Fundy Restaurant. Their web site with directions is here.
