RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK CUSHION This is a trendy place connected to the Crowne Plaza Hotel that sits just across the street from the beach.
When we arrived a live band was playing and it was nearly deafening. We got as far as way from the stage as possible but thanks to loud speakers the decibel level was still obnoxious. We weren't starved but needed to eat and decided on an order of calamari to start the thing off. Upon a closer look at the menu we each ordered individual, simple pizzas. The table to our left was enjoying some huge steaks and big plates of ribs. Their food looked excellent.
The calamari was good. Large rings of it but lightly battered and perfectly cooked. The pizzas were less inspirational and slightly burned. Not inedible but not perfect, either. It would seem to me that most people come here to order steaks and meals other than pizza. I wouldn't come back for the pizza but judging from the way the steaks and ribs looked, I might give it a shot for some fine dining the next time we return to Coogee Beach although Deep Blue, just across the street, offered up some really great food on another night. The restaurant does not have a web site but as I mentioned, they are associated with the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The restaurant is on the lower level. Crowne Plaza web site is here.
