CHARLIE'S BAR
SAN NICHOLAS, ARUBA

Quite a few people make the trip to this side of the island while visiting Aruba and if you happen to be in the San Nicholas area--perhaps coming or going from a day of snorkeling at Baby Beach--it's worth a stop for a drink.

San Nicholas has a run-down look about it.  It's home to the Coastal Oil Refinery with lots of smokestacks and strange looking streets with painted concrete walls.  Many tourists never make it down to this part of the island.

Charlie's Bar is famous for it's jumbo shrimp in the shell.  In my opinion, it should be "infamous" for the crustaceans!  I've tried them twice and while they look good and are certainly big, they taste like they've been in the freezer way too long.  And I know my shrimp having lived in some shrimping hot spots like Louisiana, Texas and Florida. Other items are a much better choice and you can't go wrong with the drinks.

You'll find just about everything but the kitchen sink nailed to the walls and the ceiling at Charlie's.  And by the time you read this, there very well may be a kitchen sink somewhere in the place! 

If you have an old, expired license plate from the U.S. or somewhere else, bring it on down and they'll put it up on the wall for you.
