RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
We've been to Aruba 8 times--so far--and we've tried the Swiss Chalet probably three times. It's an enjoyable enough experience but it just has never been exceptional.
On our most recent visit, and this was several years ago, my wife started out with an appetizer of thin, air cured ham which is traditional in Switzerland and Germany. It comes with a creamy horseradish sauce and it was good. I went with an order smoked salmon on thin toast to start and it was served properly cold and good.
For some reason I think of this place as a steak place although they serve a lot more than just beef. And on this visit I had a sirloin steak. It was probably ten ounces and cooked rare as I had ordered it. My wife loves filets and ordered one here and it, too, came to the table properly cooked. Both steaks were juicy and good.
On a previous visit my wife started out with the Dutch green pea soup and raved about it. And we've sampled seafood here in the past as well.
Many guests absolutely rave about this place. But to us it's simply "okay" and not one of the more outstanding choices on the island, in our humble opinion.
Give it a try. It's not a bad place at all and has been there for a long time so they must be doing something right!
