RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
A PERSONAL REVIEW OF RESTAURANTS AROUND THE WORLD

BARRACUDA RESTAURANT
ST. JULIANS, MALTA

This is a very well known and well done restaurant.  The restaurant overlooks the bays of Balluta and Spinola and is one of the fancier eateries on the island.

This is probably the place to go for that romantic night out in Malta, especially when the moon is flickering over the water.

As for the food, we found everything just about perfect.  I started out with cold, marinated octopus and baby squid.  My wife chose fish soup.  Both were excellent.

For our main meal we each chose a different type of fresh fish.  Both selections--gilt head bream and amberjack--were perfectly cooked over a grill.  The fresh fish is displayed at the door when you enter the restaurant.  Above and beyond bream and amberjack, you'll find various other seafood fresh that day like porgies and fresh giant red prawns on ice.

For dessert we sampled some fresh ice cream and you could tell that it was, indeed fresh.  Hot coffee brought an enjoyable evening to a close.

Be sure to make a reservation at Barracuda or you might be turned away, especially on weekends.

Prices here are a little bit stiffer than you'll find at many other Maltese restaurants but for the view, the excellent food and attentive staff, it's well worth the money in our opinion.

The Barracuda is open daily from 7-11pm.  They're located at 194 Main Street, St. Julians.  That all important reservation number is 21 331817.  And something new!  They now have a web site right here.
