RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK
ABBEY ROAD PUB
Two things attracted us to this restaurant -- the Beatles theme and the fact that the have the biggest beer variety in Virginia.
We got there early one evening and there were only a few other tables occupied. Two at the table ordered beer. I ordered the 20 ounce Coors special and the other went with a boutique type brew. When the waitress dropped mine off it was a Coors Light, not regular. Unacceptable so I sent the $2.00, 20 ounce Coors Light back and got a regular Coors long neck for something like $4.50.
We ordered some appetizers. I got a dozen steamed clams to start and they were good but a bit overcooked. Others at the table shared a large order of calamari and it was good.
Most at the table ordered hamburgers and they were okay. Our son-in-law, fearing that the food might not be all that great, went with a grilled cheese, as I recall.
As for the Beatles theme, it was a real let down. There were some pictures on the walls but no Beatles music playing. Instead a couple of different football games were on the tube.
We actually wolfed down two more beers before leaving. I hadn't seen this particular brand--Singha--since we visited Thailand. It brought back memories of our trip to Bangkok.
Don't go here for the Beatles or you'll be disappointed. Don't go here for the food because it's nothing great. DO go here for a great selection of beers from around the world.
They've got a web site here that let's you know where they're located, etc. You can also check out the food and beer menu.
