GREAT HOTELS
KAUAI MARRIOTT RESORT & BEACH CLUB This is a lovely property close to the airport on the island of Kauai. The entrance to the resort is a little odd because you actually take an escalator down to the open air lobby! That's a new one on us!
The hotel has a nice beach although the sand was a little on the "muddy" side. Still it was enjoyable to ride the waves as they came into the narrow channel that created the beach.
The pool was lovely and featured a number of hot tubs interwoven into the elaborate pool complex.
The staff at the hotel was very, very good and the place is host one of the better restaurants on the island - Duke's Canoe Club. We dined there and enjoyed it a lot. Our review of the restaurant can be found here.
The grounds are extremely well maintained and you'll see some interesting birds like the Hawaiian cardinal. Actually this little guy originated in South America and wound up taking up housekeeping on the island when somebody either introduced them or they came over by accident as stowaways on a ship.
One thing I liked about this hotel was the staff's love for wildlife. They even took time each morning to feed the doves.
One bird you'll see on the property is the famous Moa or "Red Junglefowl" introduced to the island by Polynesians.
If you ever have a chance to say at this beautiful Marriott property -- do it! You won't be disappointed! They have a web site here. To read more about our experiences in all of Hawaii, go here. |
