BATFISH?????
YES!
We spotted these interesting critters in about 50 feet of water. They were about
four feet
beneath the surface. They were large (about 11 inches tall) and very thin, as you
can
see from the shots. I suspected they were a type of batfish but I
wasn't sure until a
fish expert from Fiji e-mailed me to confirm my suspicions.
Thanks very much to Johnson Seeto,
curator of the marine collection at the University of the South Pacific in
Suva for helping not only to correctly identify the batfish but several
wrasses unknown to me!
