GRAND CAYMAN UNDERWATER - SPECTACULAR!!!!

One of the most amazing dive sites in the world is called Stingray City off of Grand Cayman.  For years fishermen would anchor up in a protected area and clean their fish and toss the guts overboard.  The southern stingrays quickly equated anchored-up fishing boats with free food.  At some point a human wound up in the water with these rays and nothing bad happened.  More and more people ventured into the water to swim with them and even feed them and today dozens of tourist boats head out each week with snorkelers and scuba-divers.  The day begins with a trip to a shallow area featuring turtle grass and conchs.  Snorkelers collect 25 conchs (maximum limit) and they are brought on board and cleaned and turned into a marinated conch salad while the boat continues to the second stop.  At that stop, folks jump in for some outstanding snorkeling and the crew spears fish for a shore lunch.  After lunch, the boat heads for Stingray City where folks swim with southern stingrays with wingspans of up to 5 feet!  And nobody gets hurt although this dive isn't for the shy.  These big guys come right up and push on you hoping for a handout.  And they get it because the crew saves the guts of the conchs collected earlier and you can feed the rays right out of your hand--or, put conch on your head or wherever and the critters inhale it!

Hope you like the pix.  I snapped them myself, as usual.
