MEET CAPTAIN MIKE
STEPHENS
Note: We were
hoping to have some audio cuts of Captain Mike up by now.
Unfortunately our audio gear experienced problems while taping the Captain.
We're going to contact Mike and see if he might be able to tape some of his
remarks and get them to us so we can post them here.

THE CAPTAIN DELIVERING
CAPTIVATING FACTS ON HIS BELOVED BERMUDA
Captain Mike is in charge of
the MV Defiance, a complimentary ferry boat that transports passengers from
the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel to the Fairmont Southampton Princess
Hotel and vice versa in a journey that takes about 40 to 45 minutes.
You will absolutely love traveling with him!

THE CAPTAIN IN HIS "OFFICE" BEHIND THE OPEN WINDOW
Captain
Mike is one of the nicest guys you'll ever encounter and his knowledge and
pride about Bermuda is just great. You'll learn more about Bermuda in
a few crossings with Captain Mike than you will on most commercial tours
He is a true gem of Bermuda and a great guy.

THE MV DEFIANCE ABOUT TO DOCK AT THE FAIRMONT SOUTHAMPTON
PRINCESS
Each day
Captain Mike starts his day out with a trip from Hamilton to Southampton.
From there he makes his one and only daily visit to the Dockyard. From
the Dockyard he heads back to Hamilton. Then it's back and forth from
Hamilton to Southampton until his day is finally over.

THE DEFIANCE WAITING TO LOAD UP IN HAMILTON
Joining
Captain Mike is a really nice first mate named Eugene. The captain
calls him "Smiley" because he's always got a broad grin on his face.
And when Captain Mike is manning the wheelhouse and giving the commentary on
the island, Smiley is down below manning the bar.

YOU CAN RIDE IN THE REAR
The
MV--and by the way that stands for "motor vessel"--Defiance also is equipped
with a head (restroom). And I think there's actually a men's and
women's powder room although the call of nature didn't strike us on any of
the many crossings we made with Mike.

OR YOU CAN RIDE ON TOP (ABOVE MY BIG, FAT HEAD)
The
amazing thing about Captain Mike's tours is that they never get boring.
They're never the same. You learn something new every time.
Seating
on the Defiance is either in the main cabin, in the rear with the wind
whistling by, on the top sun deck or on the bow. We particularly
enjoyed the breeze on one of two fixed benches on the bow. The rest of
the seats are plastic chairs.
Please
tell Captain Mike we said Hello if you're lucky enough to stay at either
Fairmont Hotel. Both are excellent!
