SNAPSHOTS OF BERMUDA BIRDS, FLOWERS & OTHER CRITTERS
CHECK BACK FOR UNDERWATER FISH PICTURES
Bermuda plays host to a number of visitors migrating through the islands during the winter.  During the summer the Bermuda Long Tail enjoys life here. These cliff dwelling birds have really long tails.  I'm no bird expert but they appear to be from the tern family.  They winter on the Sea of Sargasso in the Atlantic.  This is an area of the Atlantic that varies depending on the ocean current.  Unfortunately we didn't have a telephoto lens and couldn't get any decent pictures of these beautiful birds flying overhead.

About the prettiest bird we saw was the kiskadee pictured below.  These birds were imported from Trinidad in the 50s to keep the lizard and bug population in check but it backfired.  These birds have been a pest noshing on local fruit crops.

FORTUNATELY WE DID NOT RUN INTO ANY MEN OF WAR IN THE OCEAN ON THIS TRIP.  I HAVE BEEN STUNG BY MANY OF THEM WHILE SWIMMING IN THE ATLANTIC OFF OF FT. LAUDERDALE AND IT'S NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE.

THE INTENSE PAIN SUBSIDES AFTER AN HOUR OR SO FOR MOST AND ABOUT THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO TO TREAT THEM IS TO RUB SOME ADOLPH'S MEAT TENDERIZER ON THE STINGS  O R  APPLY A SOLUTION OF HALF WATER AND HALF AMMONIA  O R   AS A LAST RESORT, COVER THE AREA WITH URINE.  REALLY!

FOR THOSE SENSITIVE TO THE STINGS, MEDICAL TREATMENT SHOULD BE SOUGHT.  BUT FOR MOST, THE PAIN GOES AWAY SOONER THAN YOU THINK AND THE WELTS TAKE A DAY OR TWO TO GO DOWN.
